Discussion meetings - Out on the territory

Laboratori APA

BEEmill & Molino Maufet

The educational activities proposed by APAS aim to increase the knowledge and awareness of adults, children and young people on the importance of pollinators, in particular Apis mellifera, the honey bee, which acts as a flag species for the entire category .

In recent years, issues related to environmental sustainability, the circular economy and biodiversity have become increasingly recurrent: moving from an economy linked to consumerism to an economy that respects the environment is a dutiful and delicate act. For this reason it is necessary to use an innovative method to try to explain to the new generations the concrete actions that can be taken to change course.

The "hive model" is perfectly suited to explain biological, ecological and environmental aspects, key concepts of the ecological transition. In fact, the super-organism hive is a perfect example of cooperation and rational management of resources, it has a fundamental role in the conservation of plant biodiversity, as well as in agricultural production. Furthermore, bees, being closely linked to the environment in which they live, are very useful for recalling the concepts of climate change and the extreme importance of keeping intact the very delicate balances that regulate the natural system. All these topics can be addressed through lectures, practical workshops and guided visits to the educational apiary.

Furthermore, it will also be possible to carry out guided tastings of the hive's products, in particular honey, so that children and teenagers can train their senses and learn to recognize different flavours, colors and smells depending on the type of product.
